A special and well documented Plat Sauté made by J & E Gaillard and stamped "81 Faubourg Saint Denis" ... which places its construction squarely in the 1860s. These were the days of the Second Empire, the loss of artisanal craft to the industrial revolution, and the complete rebuilding of Paris by Haussmann.
You'll note the brass welding and hand-forged handle details...all signs this piece was made by hand by a skilled chaudronnier.
