These iconic French coffee cups have their origin in Algeria.  It seems the French were served mint tea as a sign of peace following the battle of Mazagran in 1840.  One of the officers was so impressed by the tall conical cups made of inlaid silver that he brought one back to France and showed it to his friend, Charles Pillivut.  Pillivut produced a porcelain copy, and the rest is history.

While we see plenty of unmatched Mazagrans in France, this is a rare set of six that dates to the 20th century.  That thin fill line inside?  Thats intentional...to leave a little room for a shot of brandy!

 Dimensions:  6.25" tall

20th century - in excellent condition
